Step 1: Go to settings by typing Settings in the search bar next to Start button, and press Enter. Step 2: Click on System option from the window, and select Default apps from the left side panel of the screen. It shows 'Microsoft Outlook' even after I switch the default client to 'Mail.' I too have had this problem. Going into Settings/system/default apps/mail does not show my email client in the options. I too need to find out where the default email client is stored and its values. Any and all help is appreciated. I have this issue as well.

I am using Office 2010 Home and Business and Outlook 2010 is my mail client. This is a relatively new pc and has Office 365 (2016) installed as well. After a recent Windows Update, my default mail client changed to Outlook 2016 -- one of my apps that sends mail stopped working, mail profile missing error). When I try to set my default mail client via the UI, only Outlook 2016 is showing; I can't select Outlook 2010.

I uninstalled Office 365 but Outlook 2010 still does not show up in the UI as a default program. Now I need to find out how to change this in the registry.

This is my main 'business computer', that runs Win 7, Quickbooks 2016, Office, Adobe Acrobat, and a bunch of other softwares I've collected throughout the years. The computer is about 4 years old, but It's windows installation is more recent, about 2 years ago, when I switched to an SSD. It had a combination of Office 2007 H&S and Outlook 2010 standalone. I've had a MAPS subscription for a while, but just let this one go because everything was working - shoemakers children & all that. So, I made sure I had a current backup, then uninstalled anything office-related, rebooted, then downloaded the ISO for Office Pro Plus 2016 and completed the install without incident.
