Step 1: Go to settings by typing Settings in the search bar next to Start button, and press Enter. Step 2: Click on System option from the window, and select Default apps from the left side panel of the screen. Step 3: Under Choose Default apps, Click on + symbol under Email option to set a mail app as your default browser.

1) Make sure that live mail is the default email client. Go to Start menu and check the default programs. 2) Even if it is the default program check the 2 registry settings: a) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Clients Mail: Default should have the value Windows Live Mail. Here is the key for setting the default email client: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Clients Mail. If you drop down to this in the registry, you can see that the ‘default’ value on the right is what sets the default email client. Now, obviously the email client must exist for you to set it.

It shows 'Microsoft Outlook' even after I switch the default client to 'Mail.' I too have had this problem. Going into Settings/system/default apps/mail does not show my email client in the options. I too need to find out where the default email client is stored and its values. Any and all help is appreciated. I have this issue as well.

I am using Office 2010 Home and Business and Outlook 2010 is my mail client. This is a relatively new pc and has Office 365 (2016) installed as well. After a recent Windows Update, my default mail client changed to Outlook 2016 -- one of my apps that sends mail stopped working, mail profile missing error). When I try to set my default mail client via the UI, only Outlook 2016 is showing; I can't select Outlook 2010.

I uninstalled Office 365 but Outlook 2010 still does not show up in the UI as a default program. Now I need to find out how to change this in the registry.

I spent my Sunday doing some things I've been putting off for a while, one of which was upgrading my aging installation of Outlook 2010. This is my main 'business computer', that runs Win 7, Quickbooks 2016, Office, Adobe Acrobat, and a bunch of other softwares I've collected throughout the years. The computer is about 4 years old, but It's windows installation is more recent, about 2 years ago, when I switched to an SSD. It had a combination of Office 2007 H&S and Outlook 2010 standalone. I've had a MAPS subscription for a while, but just let this one go because everything was working - shoemakers children & all that. So, I made sure I had a current backup, then uninstalled anything office-related, rebooted, then downloaded the ISO for Office Pro Plus 2016 and completed the install without incident.
